Links on Simultaneous and Consecutive so when the clients clicks they get this information on each

Simultaneous interpreting    This type of interpreting is ideal for situations where there are people present who speak many different languages at the same time, such as UN Conferences.   The delegates listen to the interpreters who are interpreting simultaneously in to their language; the delegate will be able to listen through the headphone.   Usually this type interpreting requires a team of interpreters working in sound-proofed booths.

Consecutive interpreting    This is the most commonly used in public service interpreting.  A consecutive interpreter will wait until the end of the speaker’s sentence before interpreting to the client and vice versa

ITLS offers a range of services designed to fit with your organisation’s requirements:

How to work with a British Sign Language interpreter
To work with a BSL interpreter is like any other language interpreter, to ensure that people speaking different languages can communicate easily and without misunderstanding.

Except that you may have to allow for extra time as the interpreter will not be speaking to the client and every English word may not have a corresponding sign in BSL.  Therefore the interpreting process involves expressing the same meaning using different vocabulary and grammatical structure.

    • Only one message can be interpreted at a time. So, in a meeting it’s important that only one person speaks or signs at a time. If this doesn’t happen the interpreter might have to ask people to speak in turn so that the conversation can be interpreted accurately.

    • The physical and mental role as a BSL interpreter can be quite exhausting. When in full flow interpreters may be processing up to 20,000 words per hour.

    • For meetings and events longer than 2 hours at least two interpreters are necessary.
